히트펌프는 열역학적 사이클을 이용하여 낮은 온도의 열원을 높은 온도의 열원으로 이동 시킬 수 있다는 개념에서 시작된 시스템이다. 히트펌프 시스템은 최근 화석연료의 고갈에 의해 에너지 과소비형 산업구조에서 저소비형 산업구조로 개선이 필요한 시기에 에너지 위기를 극복하기 위한 시스템이다. 본 연구는 히트펌프의 구조별 특성과 시장동향에 대해 조사하여 가정용으로 적용할 히트펌프의 요구사항을 파악하고 현재 사용 중인 히트펌프의 문제점인 뚜렷한 4계절에 의한 온도변화, 수자원부족, 누진세, CFC냉매에 의한 환경오염 등의 개선방안을 알아보는 연구이다.
